Moris:

The degradation of core human values is the most fundamental problem we face. We blame leaders all the time, but the rot is everywhere and in everyone. You are right: teachers, professors etc are unable to instil the right values, because they lack them themselves. No one is able to lead by example. The worst problem is with parents - for that is where it all begins.

What can be done? All any of us can do is look at ourselves. Refuse to join the degradation, protect good values in yourself, set and example to others and infect as many people as you can. Don't complain about others - keep yourself clean and right. That is all society can ask of you. If you just do that with dedication, you will have done the country a great service.

Hi Sunny,
For sometime now i have been reading your works on leadership and management, and glad to repeat that i have witnessed much growth in my work and appreciation in those whom i serve. I consider this building a nation the positive way! It is in public domain that this country has a huge and well trained workforce. My worry is that this country continues to witness much corruption and mismanagement propagated by this trained group with whom education sought to use them to change the society positively. How comes we experience alot of disatisfaction everywhere including places where the top brains lead? It saddens that when the corrupt are araigned in court, they carry titles such as Dr, Prof, Eng. etc. I have been pondering about this for sometime and indeed even after we witnessed huge destruction of property during the post election violence, it occured to me that there is something wrong with the way we train our generations. An educated or is it schooled person SHOULD be the last to destroy property. How comes then that our young generation is insensitive to all this? many may have read an article that our young people SPEND OR IS IT MISUSE upto ksh 96bn yearly on entertainment and clubbing yet we cannot see any of them beeing sensitive ENOUGH to the suffering citizens. Simply put, our teachers in all levels of our institutions seem to lack to impart LIFE SKILLS on this young people. I cannot deny that there are very many responsible young people in this country BUT the percentage is small. We need to multiply this in order to save our country from going to the dogs. A country which is founded by a people of VALUES, RESPECT AND RESPONSIBILITY is a Great Nation in waiting or in progress. my big question is what can be done as a matter of urgency to have a graduating population enter the job market with the desired VALUES from all levels of education and for the benefit of our country?
