It also boils down to political parties that nominate candidates to vie various posts. Unless the public decides not to vote in any person they deem unfit, rendering the electoral process a waste of resources and abuse of ones righting vote, then parties ought to have clear intentions for the sake of development and have candidates with a moral sense to vie for posts. But then, even when some candidates are individually the correct person, voting patterns tend to be biased by race, ethnicity or party affiliation. And yes, the mayor and deputy mayors seats should be voted in by the public and give more powers to them as well.

Very interesting. Last week I watched the mayor complaining to the Press that the Nairobi metropolitan ministry were 'interfering' with his work by painting roads in the CBD!
Very good to see that the Askaris will be tamed. I hope we can also get rod of all the landrover tow-away vehicles we see at all round-abouts and junctions.

I agree with the fact that to make positive bye-laws both parties ought to be consulted. then we avoid imposition of laws that may even lead to the collapse of businesses (like the way KBS almost collapsed after Michukis new transport laws).

Once again nice read!

I wonder if the Councillors get to read articles like this one. The ongoing political games in management of local authorities is a worrying trend and it seems like things are getting worse by the day! I think local authority elections should not be combined with the general elections. If you ask most Kenyans if they new the local councillor most will tell you no. Yet we complain when services are not delivered. I urge Kenyans to scrutinize who they elect to the local council this way they'll be cautious of who they elect at parlimentary or presidential level. Thank you
