Well said Sunny, I think it is however on the decline. I grew up in Nakuru and I think schools back then and moreso today are much more intergrated than the society. Some of the friendships I formed back then have multiplying effect as friends were introduced to other friends. Others have even blossomed into marriages (mixed). I think what will end up emerging that needs defeat will be discrimination based on economic status. The rich will never question their ethnicity but come down to the less well off you will see what I am talking about.

Sunny, I think more and more Kenyans ought to watch ‘Fruit Salad,’ a programme that’s aired on KBC tv on Wednesday after the 7 o’clock Swahili news. It’s revealing the negativity espoused in ethnic bigotry of our parents and how it affects the courtship and marriage of their children… I’m ready and willing to join Mutahi Ngunyi in committing ‘ethnic suicide.’

That was a great article n may u continue enlightening us more,i don’t know why most of us never stand n think about the many tribes we have as a blessing,to learn more from each other,to intermarry n get smarter n brighter hybrid kids,i guess we all forgot the good biology n agriculture we learn t about cross breeding,n no tribe does need to learn a new thing,i swear i cant marry my fellow Kikuyu,what new thing will i learn then.Like your counterpart Mutahi Ngunyi said,”lets commit ethnic suicide”.

What is very interesting is how other communities or groups seem to have so many faults. But even more interesting is how ‘they do not like us’ even if the person accusing them has never dealt with them e.g. ‘these —– just mistreat ——’ or ‘you employed a —- houseboy, he will just steal from you’ etc.

One of the reasons I’m so glad to be born in the 90s is to be in a ‘new’ Kenya of sorts. I can count the number of childhood friends from my tribe by my hand.
Only problem comes as we grow up and the older generation pass on their ‘wisdom’ to us… And slowly by slowly we lose our brotherhood as a nation…
