Great article, couldn't agree more about pay being linked to market conditions.

Executives love to call employees their greatest assets. However, employees do not appear on the balance sheet (save for pension liabilities) they are in fact on the Income Statement under expenses, "Salaries & Wages"

An MD will give staff a 5% pay rise citing a great performance during the year then explain to shareholders that "In spite of our great performance, the cost of Labour went up 5% during the year"

On point article. Another issue that of late has been disturbing me is the new craze with certifications. Almost every job ad these days demands for a prospective applicant to have one. But an interesting post on http://www.infoq.com/news/2009/04/anti-agile-cert-WAQB has highlighted some reasons NOT to get certification.

Today as I was browsing my mail, an article on careers entitled 'How to tell if your workplace is dysfunctional' caught my attention. You can read it here: http://msn.careerbuilder.com/Article/MSN-2083-Workplace-Issues-15-Signs-Your-Workplace-is-Dysfunctional/?sc_extcmp=JS_2083_home1&SiteId=cbmsnhp42083&ArticleID=2083&gt1=23000&cbRecursionCnt=1&cbsid=9242289407164b6db84ea589e556f2aa-311658629-R5-4 It gives several examples of dysfunctionality in organizations that could well apply in Kenya...

Kudos Bindra for this article. I've always been on a collision course because I view apparaisal as a paper filling exercise and I really liked it when you said that management already know who to give what.

keep up the good work
