Mbogo:

I wish that more people were, like you, more aware of the timeless wisdom of Auden and others, rather than wasting their lives listening to ill-considered outpourings of pimply bloggers. Information is not knowledge, and knowledge is not wisdom.

I have come across that marshmallow experiment before, and will cover it in the book I intend to write on the subject in 2010.

Mwalimu Bindra,

Yet again you hit the nail on the head. Our national "chap-chap mentality" is like a cancer that threatens not only our professional business relationships but also our personal relationships. Yet we forget that throughout history, from the time of biblical Adam till today, human society has paid a high price for his short-sighted impatience. As a famous poet so eloquently put it:

"Perhaps there is only one cardinal sin: impatience. Because of impatience we were driven out of Paradise, because of impatience we cannot return."
W. H. Auden, Anglo-American Poet, (1907 - 1973).

Alas, in today's "on-demand" society that has been conditioned to value quantity over quality, W.H.Auden's words might sound irrelevant. What, with the youth competing to see who has the most facebook friends to wealthy businessmen outdoing each other to determine who has a bigger bank account?

And it isn't just Kenya that's affected, rather its a worldwide disease, one that has afflicted mankind for ages and will probably continue to do so as long as we and our children continue to prioritize quantity over quality. For example, please take a look at the Fortune article I've linked below, paying close attention to the first 3 paragraphs. Its publication date might be a bit old (2004), yet the content is still so relevant today, not only for America but also for us Kenyans.

http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/fortune_archive/2004/03/08/363672/index.htm

In conclusion, I leave you with the words of Spanish playwright Miguel de Cervantes:

"The gratification of wealth is not found in mere possession or in lavish expenditure, but in its wise application."

As always, keep up the good work.

Regards,
Mbogo.
